Caribbean Travel Tips

Many people dream of going on a Caribbean vacation, and why not? With more than 7,000 islands that make up the Caribbean, chances are that you will find someplace or something that you love on your next vacation there. Between what to eat, where to stay and fun things to do, there is something for everyone in this part of the world. The hardest part is just picking one.

Where to Eat

Whether it is a four star restaurant or a vendor on the street, you are almost guaranteed to get a tasty morsel in your mouth in the Caribbean! Due to the long tropical growing season, fruits are everywhere. Try coconuts, pineapples, passion fruit, papayas, mangoes, melons and pomegranate fresh off the vine. Or for the more adventurous, there are many exotic fruits that cannot be exported from the islands such as breadfruit, ugli, and naseberry that might peak your interest. Other specialties from the Caribbean are veggies such as yams, pumpkin, yucca and callaloo. Chicken and fish are very popular as main dishes and with being right on the sea you are bound to have your pick of the freshest catch like sea bass, swordfish, pompano, and king fish. Fish are prepared a variety of different ways such as being grilled, baked, stewed and put in chowder. And don't forget about dessert! With sugar cane being a major crop from this area of the world, desserts are a big part of the meal and will leave you feeling full and satisfied.

Where to Stay

Finding a place to stay in the Caribbean is really not a problem. Because of the variety of amazing locations for places to stay, you will have a tough time finding one that doesn't fit your needs. Looking for a tropical villa overlooking the beach? Or what about a private island resort? Or maybe a bungalow in a nature preserve? All of these can be found on the islands. An interesting unique place to stay is an old sugar cane plantation that has been transformed into a hotel or guest houses. It is an interesting way to sneak a peek at the past, but still enjoy the present.

What to Do

There are no shortages of fun and exciting things to do while you are in the Caribbean. Activities such as kayaking, caving, and horseback riding are outdoor activities offered that the whole family can enjoy. For the more adventurous, there are trips you can take to swim with stingrays and sharks, as well as take a zip-line through a rainforest. For those interested in diving, there are many opportunities to visit some amazing diving sites while you are there. For folks who prefer to chill out instead, riding bikes, bird watching and simply laying in the sun for vacation cannot get much better.
